Running Background, Style, and General Preference.

I stepped into the running world during my Sophomore year of high school. By chance.

I joined the cross country team at my small high school late in the season simply because the team needed extra finishers to be able to win our one-team league.

And given that I’d been a soccer player for the majority of my life, I figured I was in good enough shape to make it to the finish line.

After my first race, I was hooked.

From there, I joined the distance track and field team, and juggled playing soccer and running cross country in the same season.

By my senior year, I went on to place 29th in the California State meet for cross country with a 5K personal record of 16:29, and I ran a 1600m personal record in 4:29.

The majority of my training as a high schooler was on the trails in my hometown of Mt. Shasta, CA.

Now that I’m in college and no longer competing in cross country and track, I’ve developed a real taste for trail running, and I often do 8-15 mile “adventure runs” with my friends in the mountains around my hometown.

The trails I run on are mostly rocky with soft dirt, and sometimes our adventure runs require some scrambling.

I am currently training for my first 50k trail race and am in the process of building mileage, so I’m currently running about 40 miles a week. Most of my runs are on trail, but when I’m at school in Portland, OR, the majority of my miles are on the road.

I tend to prefer shoes on the more supportive end of the spectrum, and those with thicker midsoles. I occasionally wear Superfeet running insoles in my shoes to add support. I also tend to prefer shoes with a drop in the 4-9 mm range.

Some Shoes I’ve Clicked With:

Hoka One One Arahi; Hoka One One Torrent; Nike Zoom Structure 20; Hoka One One Speedgoat 2
