In my experience, the only thing that can kill off these boots is the company that makes them.

KEEN discontinued the boot, and decided this past year to bring it back. Smart move.

I bought the KEEN Briggs Mid WP boot maybe 5-6 years ago, kicked the crap out of them, and they are still going strong. They’ve been my go-to boot for long alpine hikes in northern New Mexico, as well as for extremely muddy (or extremely rainy, or extremely snowy) 30-45minute daily hikes with my dogs. They’ve also been the footwear that I’ve worn the most to and from ski resorts over the past 6 or 7 years.

KEEN doesn’t bill these as the burliest, toughest boot out there, but I’ve put about around a thousand days in a pair, hose them off when the mud gets to be too much, and they are still going just fine.

And the soles have proven to be both extremely durable while also offering good traction on snow, ice, mud, and scree.

Sizing / Fit

The Briggs Mid WP runs wide, and perhaps a bit long. I departed from my normal size 10.5 / 44 EU, and dropped down to a size 10 US / 43 EU. While the platform is wide, I like that I can slip these on and run out the door without lacing them, or when scrambling up or down steep scree fields, I can lace these up tight and get a precise, unsloppy fit.

Bottom Line

If you want to buy a pair of boots that you won’t have to worry about replacing for several years, I can vouch for the Keen Briggs Mid WP. They’re comfortable, they’re durable, and you should feel free to abuse them.

I can vouch for fit as stated in this review for bigger sizes too. I mostly wear 15 (us), and the briggs size 14 (us) fit perfectly. To be clear, they are a true 14 in length, but the shape and width of the toe box apparently makes the difference for me.
