Location, Location, Location.

On Blister’s recent trip to Whistler, our review crew stayed at the Crystal Lodge & Suites, located right in the heart of Whistler Village. The Crystal Lodge’s location couldn’t be more convenient—it literally takes about 30 seconds to walk from the Lodge to the lifts.

Crystal Lodge & Suites, Whistler, BC.

Whether you’re in Whistler to ski or bike, all the action is centered around (1) the lifts at the base of the hill, and (2) the eating and drinking that happens once you’re done riding those lifts. Given that, the Crystal Lodge offers guests one of the absolute best locations in the Village.

The Crystal Lodge is not only extremely close to Whistler’s lifts, but it is surrounded by restaurants, bars, clubs, and shops. In the winter, this means you won’t spend a lot of time clomping around in ski boots on your way to or from the lifts. And in the summer, it means that if you want to go grab a quick bite for lunch, it’s easy to drop off the bikes at the Crystal Lodge so you don’t have to worry about locking them up.

The staff at the Crystal Lodge is also impressive. Even though our crew had a fairly large fleet of bikes that required frequent swapping, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Throughout the day, they made it extremely easy to roll into the lobby with a bike, and a bellhop would whisk it away to a secure storage facility that only they had the key to.

Admittedly, with all the bike testing and swapping we were doing, our riders were a bit more needy than the average hotel guest. But the Crystal Lodge’s staff handled it all very graciously, and they had a good answer for any small issue our riders had.

While the Crystal Lodge doesn’t have a specific area to work on bikes, the bellhops made the bikes available whenever we needed them, so they could be worked on in the parking garage or other suitable areas.

The Crystal Lodge offers a wide range of rooms and suites, from traditional hotel rooms, to spacious studios, to specialty suites equipped with a fireplace and Jacuzzi bathtub. The beds are comfortable and have plenty of pillows.

While the basic hotel rooms have a mini-fridge, those staying in a studio will have access to a kitchenette with a mini fridge, toaster oven, electric kettle, coffee maker, microwave, sink, and a modest supply of plates and cutlery. This was sufficient for our team of four to toss together a workable breakfast in the morning, and the larger suites include a full kitchen.

In addition to the really nice rooms, the Crystal Lodge also has a really great hot tub—which is arguably a more important feature than nice rooms…. It’s outside and hot, and there’s a raspberry bush right next to the pool, which was in season while we were there in mid-July. So yes, time your trip right, and you can literally pick fresh raspberries and eat them while sitting in the Crystal Lodge’s hot tub.

Other Perks at the Crystal Lodge

·      The Crystal Lodge welcomes dogs! For an additional $20 a night, your canine can stay with you, and you’ll also get a dog blanket, bowl, towel, extra doggie bags, and treats. (And for those who have allergies, dog-free rooms are available.)

·      There are more restaurants and shops attached to the Crystal Lodge than any other building in Whistler – 6 restaurants and 16 shops to be exact. And as a guest of the Crystal Lodge, you get discounts at all of those places.

·      There is an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, plus a sauna. And did we mention that in the summer you can pick raspberries directly from the hot tub??

Bottom Line

For those who are looking for a great lodge with friendly service, comfortable rooms, and an unbelievable location, the Crystal Lodge is tough to beat.
